Ingres and Interactive Ideas sign distributor agreement for UK reseller channel...
Ingres and Interactive Ideas join forces to provide enterprise ready open source solutions to the UK reseller channel...
September 2nd 2009 - Ingres Corporation, the leading open source database management company and pioneer of the New Economics of IT, today announced a UK distribution agreement with Interactive Ideas, one of the UK's leading value-added software and technology distributors and Red Hat's EMEA distributor of the year. The partnership agreement will provide the channel with a world-class, enterprise ready database, based on open source technology and gives resellers and ultimately end customers an alternative choice to proprietary database solutions, along with the option to move to open source throughout the technology stack.
Interactive Ideas has maintained a long and profitable partnership with Red Hat for over a decade and has witnessed a steady increase in interest in not only Red Hat solutions, but open source technologies in general.
"There is no doubt that the economic downturn has spurred innovation" said Mike Trup, managing director, Interactive Ideas." As organisations look to reduce costs without sacrificing on innovation, open source has emerged as a vehicle for businesses to compete in the new economy. Our reseller community has seen increased interest in technology that not only has open source as its foundation, but also is technologically superior with a proven pedigree. Red Hat, and now Ingres, fulfils this need. These partnerships provide our reseller community with the skills and products to become trusted advisors around open source. Not only is this beneficial for resellers that already have an open source offering, but it is also an opportunity for those that are restricted to proprietary technology to expand their skill set and breadth of portfolio to include market leading open source technologies."
Resellers are already recognising the value of having enterprise ready open source solutions within their portfolios. Abtech, a value added reseller that works with Interactive Ideas to provide technology and consultancy to meet the exacting needs of some of the largest enterprises and government institutions, recently selected Ingres as its open source database of choice.
"Ingres is available at a fraction of the price of proprietary solutions, backed by the development power of the open source community," said Nigel Wright, sales director, Abtech. "Our customers appreciate the option to reduce capital expenditure in these challenging times, without having to sacrifice on security or performance."
The partnership announcement with Interactive Ideas is also particularly timely as Ingres recently announced the Ingres Development Stack for Jboss Enterprise Middleware, the first-ever fully pre-assembled bundle that combines Ingres Database with Red Hat's Jboss Developer Studio and Jboss Enterprise Application Platform.
"Since the launch of the Ingres Development Stack for Jboss, we have seen a rise in interest from organisations looking to move to full-fledged open source strategy," said Steve Shine, executive vice president of operations, Ingres. "Through technology partners such as Red Hat and distribution partners such as Interactive Ideas, we are making proven, mature open source technology and leading edge developments available to enterprises through a wider channel. The thriving partner network at Ingres is at the heart of our business strategy. Ingres supports our partners with a customised program, and makes our partner relationships a priority - from the existing product and service relationship to the deployment of Ingres Database."
