With the EU finally saying 'oh, go on then' today to the Oracle-Sun combination and Larry Ellison due to talk up the new hybrid beast of Snoracle on 27 January, I suppose it was only a matter of time before the sparks (and less pleasant things too) began to fly.

The Government of Jordan and open source database management company Ingres have signed an MOU to promote open source software adoption in the country.

The MOU between Ingres and the Ministry of Information and Communications Technology of Jordan (MOICT), aims to increase expertise and competence around open source software, to make Jordan a regional centre for open source software.

Ingres customers Save Mart and Cowen have both been named winners of the 'InfoWorld 100' awards for their open-source initiatives. The 'InfoWorld 100' celebrate IT projects that use technology in smart, innovative, creative ways to meet business and technical objectives.
