EnterpriseDB, the leading worldwide provider of PostgreSQL and Oracle database compatibility products and services, have announced the general availability of Postgres Plus® Cloud Database on Amazon Web Services.  
Postgres Plus Cloud Database is a full-featured, enterprise-class PostgreSQL database-as-a-service (DBaaS). EnterpriseDB also announced that CloudBees and Engine Yard have selected Postgres Plus Cloud Database as one of their leading database solutions.

On December 20th Oracle (ORCL) reported disappointing results that sent its stock down 9% after-hours. After my December 18th interview with Ed Boyajian, president and CEO at EnterpriseDB, I was not surprised.

How so? EnterpriseDB offers an awful lot of information processing software for a fraction of the price that Oracle charges. And with corporate IT being asked to do more with less money, it’s becoming harder for Oracle to scare its customers into overpaying.

EnterpriseDB announced that it has achieved Common Criteria certification at the Evaluation Assurance Level (EAL) 2 for EnterpriseDB Postgres Plus® Advanced Server 8.4 from the National Information Assurance Partnership, NIAP, a joint NSA and NIST security evaluation organization. Postgres Plus Advanced Server 8.4 is a relational database management system based on PostgreSQL, an open source database.
